Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to frequently asked questions can be found in the Terms and Conditions.

How did this pilot program come about?

King County Metro is working on a number of ways to help people get to transit service more easily. People often walk or bike to transit, but at other times or locations people will drive and park their cars.

To help meet growing demand, Metro partnered with Diamond Parking to allow private property owners to offer parking to transit riders. This pilot program makes use of currently un-used, existing spaces as a cost-efficient strategy to add parking options quickly as traditional park & rides take time to plan and construct.

The program is supported by a federal grant awarded to Metro to explore a shared approach to bringing new parking spaces to transit customers. The grant comes from the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) value Pricing Program. More information about the program can be found here.

Does King County Metro recieve proceeds from the permit sales?

No, revenue from permit sales goes to the properties providing the parking spaces, which determine the parking fees.

Diamond Parking manages the lots and customer transactions. King County's role is to work with Diamond to allow transit customers to park at these locations near frequent transit service.
